VIRGIN MOBILE APP REDESIGN
October 2014
Virgin Mobile app enabled customers to activate and provision newly purchased phones unassisted.
The project underwent two evolutions: first at launch, then a brand refresh a few months later. I was brought in mid-cycle to provide feasible UX recommendations.

Challenge
How might we evaluate an app in mid-development and provide usability recommendations within launch date?
-
My Role
App evaluation, visual design and asset production.

Outcomes
Able to launch the app on time while addressing the usability issues. Also, executed a visual redesign for a brand refresh months later.
What makes this project notable?
This project is an example of designing within constraints. To meet the launch deadline, I focused on fixing usability issues on the approved design. For the brand evolution, I redesigned towards a traditional, scaled down visual style.
Entering QA testing in development, I addressed the usability issues on the app. On the left is the approved mockup provided by an outside agency. The right shows the results: added contrast to mitigate legibility issues and applying visual affordance to buttons.
The brand refresh was an opportunity to do a wholesale visual redesign. The lighter version gives a more spacious feel needed in a small real estate packed with lots of information.
